The image above shows what the largest online space battle to ever take place looks like. On the evening of Sunday 28th July, over 4000 people took Eve Online in a head to head skirmish that lasted more than five hours and sent more than 2900 ships to the scrap-heap.
Two of EVE’s biggest rival factions – TEST Alliance and the Goonswarm-led CFC – went head-to-head in a battle that was the culmination of a two-month campaign by the CFC to invade the Fountain area – TEST’s traditional home region – and was kicked off by TEST’s decision to make an Alamo-style final stand.
EST Alliance speech from “BoodaBooda,” CEO of Dreddit, a TEST Alliance corporation.
I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of other alliances. A day will come again when the courage of Test fails, when we forsake our allies and break all nips and agreements. But it is not this day. An hour of prophecies and AHAC wrecks when the age of Test comes crashing down. But it is not this day. This day we fight. By all that you hold dear in Nullsec, I bid you, stand. Pilots of Test!
CFC speech from player “the_mittani,” CEO of Goonwaffe and leader of the Goonswarm Federation.
The foe is doing morale pings with LOTR quotes. We’re not going to bother with a morale ping because we’re in the system first, we have seven Baltecfleets, one AHAC fleet, two Bomber wings, one FuckYouFleet, and yeah.
The CFC eventually triumphed, forcing TEST to flee from Fountain – the area of virtual space where the two factions had drawn their battle lines.
With space games very much in the midst of resurgence, this is a huge inspiration to those of us working in the genre; the pinnacle of online space battles to date. It’s certainly fired up our engines here at Born Ready Games, and the battle will undoubtedly be referenced as we continue to move forward with our new project.
